Human Beings Are a Miracle!

Experience a unique and meditative concert where literature and music merge in a meeting between life’s deepest questions and the timeless power of music.

My soul weighs no more than the dream of a butterfly,
yet it contains so much that God must take out his great compass
if he wishes to enclose it! / Björn Ranelid

The acclaimed author Björn Ranelid reads selected texts in his distinctive, deeply affecting language while, perhaps the world’s foremost nyckelharpa player, Erik Rydvall, performs music by J. S. Bach together with the festival’s artistic director, classical guitarist David Härenstam, and Stefan Klaverdal on live electronics.

“Music is born from death when you play it,” we dare to paraphrase one of the evening’s main figures, Björn Ranelid himself, as each tone and phrase becomes a reminder of life’s fragility and strength, and of how music can give voice to the unspoken. The sounds and words become a resonant bridge between the present and the eternal.

This is a unique concert that is not only heard but felt. A meditative encounter between words, sound, and presence, leaving the audience with both stillness and reflection. Do not miss this rare opportunity to experience literature and Baroque music fused with contemporary electronics in an intimate and evocative interplay between some of Sweden’s leading musicians and one of its most distinguished authors.

Erik Rydvall, nyckelharpa, is one of the world’s most prominent nyckelharpa players and a musician who innovatively combines Baroque expression with Nordic folk music tradition. With a background in Swedish folk music and studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he has developed a personal and virtuosic style that highlights the full tonal richness of the nyckelharpa. As a soloist, Rydvall has performed with ensembles such as the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, Musica Vitae, and the Dalasinfonietta. He has also participated in several international film and television productions in Hollywood, where his playing has contributed to unique soundscapes.

Björn Ranelid is one of Sweden’s foremost authors and cultural figures. He made his debut in 1983 with The Surviving Gardener and has since published around thirty books, including novels, essays, and autobiographical works marked by poetic language and existential intensity. He was awarded the August Prize in 1994 for Sin and has also received the Aftonbladet Literature Prize. Ranelid is a frequent public debater and a noted stage personality. In 2012, he participated in Melodifestivalen with “Mirakel.” He is known for his pathos, rhetorical brilliance, and unwavering belief in love as the sustaining force of life.

On stage:

Björn Ranelid – recitation
Erik Rydvall – nyckelharpa

The In Between Music Festival was born in Hjärnarp, among the fields outside Ängelholm, six years ago out of a desire to create a space for music that moves between genres and is performed in nature-close environments, away from larger cities.
