Live music for the 100-year-old expressionist, now cult-declared silent film “Die Stadt ohne Juden” with two award-winning American musicians!
The film is a vision of the future based on a book of the same title that in 1924 predicted the consequences of the Nazi takeover of power in Germany. The author was murdered shortly after the film premiered and the film was banned in 1933 but rediscovered in the 1990s.
As it is a silent film, it is performed as often in the early 20th century, with live music enhancing and commenting on the action. The American musicians are on a unique visit to Sweden: Donald Sosin has been awarded several times – in different countries – as “the world’s best silent film pianist”. Alicia, Svigals, violin, started New York-based “The Klezmatics”, one of the world’s most famous klezmer bands and is considered by many to be one of the world’s best klezmer violinists!
