Erik Heide and String Orchestra from Musikhögskolan in Malmö

Musicians from the string courses at Musikhögskolan in Malmö present a program with absolute highlights from the string repertoire. Musical direction is provided by Professor Erik Heide.

Erik Heide grew up in Stenungsund on the Swedish side of the Öresund but studied in Denmark. In 1998 he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music after studying with Milan Vitek and Tim Frederiksen. This was followed by further studies at the Musikhochschule in Cologne and with the Alban Berg Quartet and Ralf Gothoni in Helsinki. Today he is concertmaster of the Gothenburg Symphony and The Danish Chamber Orchestra as well as professor of violin at the University of Stavanger and Musikhögskolan in Malmö.

Erik has long been active in Denmark and is considered one of the country’s most celebrated chamber musicians. He was first concertmaster of the Copenhagen Phil between 2004–2019 and principal of the Diamond Ensemble in the Royal Library between 2007–2018. With the Diamond Ensemble, he played eight concerts annually that were broadcast live on Danish P2 together with soloists such as Andras Schiff and Sarah Chang.

Erik is also one of the mainstays of Trio Ondine, with whom he has won awards such as DR Artist of the Year, New Generation Artists from the BBC and the Audience Award (and additional awards) at both the ARD Competition in Munich and the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. On records released by the Danish record company Dacapo, he has also received both Editor’s Choice and Grammy nominations as a soloist. At Tivoli’s star concerts, Erik has been heard in acclaimed piano quintets with Leonidas Kavakos, Nikolaj Znaider and Antoine Tamestit.
