Minna Weurlander & Deseo String Quartet.

Accordion virtuoso Minna Weurlander and her string quartet offer an enchanting and powerful concert experience, a journey into the world of film music. Among the composers are Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Philip Glass, Bernard Herrmann, Angelo Badalamenti, Alberto Iglesias, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Vladimir Martynov, Carlos Gardel and others.

The ensemble was formed in 2016 by accordionist and composer Minna Weurlander with a focus on cross-border, contemporary, film music and contemporary tango nuevo. Since 2016, they have given a large number of concerts in the country and created both a large and wide audience. The unique setting, a distinctive program and the great virtuosity have been praised by both the audience and reviewers throughout the country.

Finnish-born accordion virtuoso and composer Minna Weurlander has devoted her entire life to music. Her artistic expression and musical breadth make her a completely unique artist who has attracted great interest from an international audience. At only 15 years old, she became world accordion champion and began touring far and wide. She has also been named prize winner at the prestigious Premio Internazionale Astor Piazzolla. Minna is trained as a soloist at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and is now considered one of Europe’s foremost and most versatile concert accordionists. Minna has been active in Sweden for 20 years. Over the years, there have been collaborations with everything from symphony orchestras to experimental dance performances and chamber music ensembles. She has collaborated with, among others, the composer Philip Glass in his latest work “Circus days and nights” and in February 2025 a new concerto for accordion and orchestra will have its premiere, written for her by Hans Ek.

Minna is accompanied by some of Skåne’s leading string musicians. They participate, among others, in the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and as soloists and chamber musicians in various ensembles; JOAKIM ZETTERQVIST-leader, SAANA KÄHKÖNEN-leader.
